Icebreaker:  What is something you do to make sure you don’t forget something important? It could be practical -calendar reminders, sticky notes, photos OR something more meaningful like keeping a memento or telling a story.

Looking at the Passage- Read Joshua 3:14-17 & Joshua 4:1-7, 19-24

  • God brought Israel to the Jordan River when it was at flood stage, rather than when crossing would have been easier. What do you think God wanted Israel to learn about Him through the timing of this miracle?

  • The Ark went ahead of the people and remained in the middle of the Jordan until everyone had safely crossed. What does that communicate about God’s presence with and commitment to His people?

  • Chase summarizes what Israel needed to know with two simple truths: “God cares and God can.” Where do you see each of those truths displayed in this passage?

  • After everyone crossed, God commanded Israel to take twelve stones from the Jordan River and build a memorial. According to Joshua 4:21–24, what purposes would those stones serve?

Digging Deeper

  • Why do you think forgetfulness can be so dangerous to our faith?

    • What are we tempted to believe about God when we forget what He has already done?

  • Think about your own story. Do you have any “memorial stones” in your life? A time you can look back on and clearly see God’s faithfulness, provision, presence, or sustaining grace?

  • We often want God to remove the obstacle before we take the next step. Where might God be asking you to trust or obey Him right now before you know how things will turn out?

  • "God displays His saving might today so that His people will trust Him tomorrow.” What could you intentionally do to become someone who remembers God’s faithfulness rather than waiting until a crisis to try to find faith?

PRAYER

P — Praise God for a specific way His grace has reached you when you didn’t deserve or expect it.

R — Repent ofwhere have you underestimated God’s grace - either for yourself or for someone else? Confess where fear, judgment, or unbelief has shaped your response.

A — Ask for courage to trust what God has said rather than what you can see? Ask Him for faith to take the next step.

Y — Yield that unexpected person, circumstance, or difficult situation to God.
