Icebreaker:  
  • We talked about the spiritual world on Sunday. What was your belief in the spirit world growing up? How has it changed since then? 
Sermon Discussion-1 John 4:1-6  (The podcast will help a lot with discussion)
  • Verse 1 talks about false prophets, false spirits and false messages. When you think about our current culture—who are some of the primary false prophets, and what false messages are they proclaiming? 
  • What are the resources God gives us in order to test the spirits with greater discernment? 
  • Who are the loudest voices in your life right now? (Podcasts, books, media, friends, family members) Are they from the world and speaking the world’s “truth”? Do they know God? 
Going Deeper  - (Still Building from 4:1-6)
  • Pastor Steve talked to us about our spiritual authority. Take a few minutes to read these verses together (Matthew 10:1, Luke 10:19, Titus 2:15)
  • In your own words: Describe the spiritual authority you have in Christ.
  • How does the command to “test the spirits” in verse 1 speak to the idea of our spiritual authority?
  • In what ways do you think God might be calling you to act more in the authority He has given you?
