Grow Group Questions - March 10, 2024

March 8, 2024 7:36 AM
Announcement:
Are you a follower of Christ but have not yet been baptized? If so, please consider signing up to talk to a Pastor or ministry leader about it over the next few weeks. (Leaders, if you know of someone, please encourage them)
Icebreaker:  When you were a kid, who did you think was the wisest person you knew?
Sermon Discussion - James 3:13-18
  • Based on the sermon, how would you define wisdom?
    • How did the sermon differentiate between false wisdom and true wisdom?
    • What are some differences between those who exhibit divine wisdom and those who do not?
  • The sermon mentions that gentleness is a key aspect of true wisdom.
    • How does the concept of gentleness challenge societal norms around leadership and gender?
    • How can we cultivate a value for gentleness?
Going Deeper
  • The sermon presented the idea that bitter envy and selfish ambition are evident when what a person thinks is more important than what the Bible says.
    • Do you believe that Jesus believes exactly what you do?
    • What kinds of practices could you add to your life that would test what you believe to be true?
  • Discuss the concept of humility.
    • How does Jesus exemplify true wisdom through humility?
  • Who is your favorite teacher/influencer when it comes to the Bible or spiritual things? What evidence do you see that this person is “gentle?”
  • How can we cultivate a discerning spirit to identify true wisdom in our interactions with others, particularly in religious contexts?
Prayer Time
Consider praying for church leaders and teachers. Pray for each other to have eyes to see areas where we lack wisdom and gentleness. Ask God to give us those things.
Reminder for next week: Read James 4:1-12
