Icebreaker: Growing up, what “strategy” did you use to get your way with your parents?
Sermon Discussion - Read Luke 18:1-8
- How does the judge in the parable contrast with our understanding of God as a just judge? How Is Jesus showing us that God is not like that unjust judge?
- Why is recognising this as a contrast important to one’s faith?
- What is it about our God that makes justice vital to understanding his character?
- How Does God’s justice partner with his compassion?
- What does the widow’s persistence teach us about the nature of faith and prayer?
- What does it mean to you that God’s justice is greater than any other justice we could imagine or receive?
- What are the areas that cause you to doubt or wrestle with God’s justice?
- Describe the Faith Jesus is referring to in the final verse of this parable.
- How can we practice that same faith in our lives when we see injustices toward ourselves or others?
- How can we support one another in our small group to remain faithful and hopeful in the face of injustice? (Hint, we do not look to each other to help us fix the problem or feel better about ourselves)
- Pray that God would help us recognize His just and compassionate nature, regardless of our worldly experiences. Ask God to strengthen our trust in His character during times of pain as we learn to run to Him more regularly.
