Icebreaker:
If you were experiencing religious persecution and a pastor wrote to encourage you, what would you want their letter to say?
Sermon Discussion - James 1:1-18
- James says that trials mature us, teach us wisdom, strengthen our faith and give us endurance:
- Which of these outcomes have you seen come about in your life as a result of painful trials?
- How can believers support and encourage each other during times of trials?
- What practical steps can be taken to maintain faith and endurance in the face of adversity?
- Why is it that asking “Why?!?!” over “Who?!?!” keeps us from seeing God while in a trial and experiencing what James is talking about in verses 2-4?
- How does the answer being "WHO" (God) provide comfort and strength in difficult times?
- What keeps you from asking “Who?” in your own life?
- How has your understanding of God's role in your trials influenced your perspective on challenges?
- Is there a trial you are going through now you would be willing to share?
Lift up those who are currently facing trials. Ask God to provide them with comfort, encouragement, and a strong sense of His presence.
Reminder for Next week: Read James 1:19-27
