Grow Group Questions - February 25, 2024

February 23, 2024 1:00 PM
Announcement:  (Please read as a group before discussion)
Our challenge to you this week is to answer the questions with a willingness to examine your faith. We want to be people with a living faith.
Icebreaker:  What are some examples of outrageous claims you've heard or encountered, either in advertising or personal interactions?
Sermon Discussion - James 2:14-26
  • How would you define "works" in the context of James 2?
  • Do you agree with the statement, "Living faith holds belief and works together"? Why or why not?
  • How does James challenge our understanding of faith in his letter?
    • Share your thoughts on the airplane analogy used in the sermon ("Faith IS Action").
    • According to the sermon, what does it mean to have "dead" faith?
    • Why is it significant to distinguish between dead faith and living faith?
  • How do the examples of Abraham and Rahab challenge our perception of what it means to have faith?
Going Deeper
  • Should we be open to others challenging us to consider if we have living faith as James did? Why or Why not?
    • What would healthy versions of those conversations look like in a group like ours?
  • In closing, the sermon asks, "What kind of faith do you have?"
    • How would you answer this question based on your understanding of the sermon's message?
    • How can we apply the concept of "Faith IS Action" to our daily lives as Christians?
Pray   This week may have packed a punch as James is challenging us to examine our faith. During your prayer time, ask God to help your group continue in conversations like James was having in these verses.
Reminder for next week: Read James 3:1-12
