Opening Prayer Prompts For Group:
P-PraiseJesus because He is holy, true, and holds authority over everything in our lives.
R- Repent of the ways you try to regain control through bitterness, isolation, anger, or self-reliance instead of trusting Christ.
A-Ask God for endurance to remain faithful when life feels discouraging, lonely, or powerless.
Y-Yield your future, reputation, opportunities, and identity to Jesus, trusting that no earthly circumstance can separate you from Him.
Ice Breaker: If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
The Sermon Setup: Read Revelation 3:7-13, Philadelphia
Jesus highlights the church’s “little power,” yet He speaks to them with encouragement and approval. What does that reveal about how Jesus responds to us in our weaknesses?
Jesus doesn’t promise the church in Philadelphia greater influence or control, but calls them to endure faithfully. Why do we often assume God’s blessing looks like strength or success? How have you wrestled with that idea personally?
The sermon said, “Powerlessness is actually the normal condition of the faithful.” In what ways do you see that reflected in the life of Jesus? How does His example challenge the way you normally think about power or control?
Going Deeper
Why is it difficult for us to believe that faithfulness matters more to God than influence, power, or success?
Jesus tells the church to “hold on”, endure faithfully to conquer. What does holding on when we feel powerless practically look like? In what ways might that change how we live?
We heard that, “It is better to be powerless with Christ than powerful without him.” Is there an area in your life that makes it hard for you to rely on that truth? How would YOUR life change if you fully adopted this truth?
