NEXT Discussion Questions (see note in the letter to leaders):
As we approach Commitment Sunday
  • What worries surface when you think about participating in NEXT — financial, emotional, or practical?
  • How does the truth “your heavenly Father knows what you need” speak into those worries?

Ice Breaker: What is something you worried about that turned out to be an unfounded concern?

Going Deeper in The Sermon - Read Aloud Matthew 6:25-34
  • Why is simply telling ourselves “Don’t worry” not enough?
        • Jesus uses birds and wildflowers as examples. Do those images reveal anything to you about God’s attention, care, and provision?
  • Jesus’ audience worried about food, clothing, and basic survival.
        • How are our worries today similar and how are they different?
  • Which of the 4 sources of worry Jesus mentions do you most often give in to– mistaken priorities, inaccurate self-worth, illusion of control, feeble faith?
  • The sermon said that we don’t believe God loves us for two reasons: Past experience shouts louder than God’s voice and we believe that pain = abandonment.
        • What experiences or voices have shaped how you receive God’s love?
        • How does that show up in your own story? Where have painful seasons distorted your belief about God’s love?

Application:

  • Jesus says, “Seek first the kingdom… and all these things will be provided.”
        • What would it look like in practical terms to seek God’s kingdom first in this season?
        • What is one small act of faith you could take this week that pushes back against worry?
