Ice Breaker: What’s one “long-awaited” thing in your life that eventually came in God’s timing and surprised you?
- Why do you think unmet longings often feel like shame even for faithful believers?
- How does knowing they were righteous and blameless shape the way you view the pain they (and you or others) might be going through?
- What do you learn about God’s character here?
- Why do you think long seasons of waiting make trusting God harder?
- Where do you most relate to Zechariah’s doubt?
- What does it look like to trust God’s character even when you cannot see His timing or know the answer?
- What is an “impossible prayer” for you right now?
- Is there a place in your life where you sense God inviting you to keep praying faithfully, even without answers?
Prayer from the Sermon:
Father, I choose to bring to you the things my heart longs for that seem impossible. Help me believe that you will answer in the right way and at the right time. When I grow impatient or discouraged, steady my heart to trust in your goodness, knowing that you are holding my prayer with care because you love me. I place my longing, the timing, and the answer to this prayer in your hands. I pray the heart of Psalm 27:13-14: I am certain that I will see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living so I will wait for the Lord. Lord help me to stay spiritual strong as I trust you, praying courageously for the impossible things only you can do. As I pray I will wait for the Lord.
