Opening Prayer Prompts For Group:
P-Praise God for His goodness and justice, even within judgment.
R- Repent by confessing the ways we look to worldly systems for comfort and protection from suffering, rather than trusting in Christ.
A-Ask for endurance, courage, and faithfulness during pain and suffering.
Y-Yield through surrendering your fears about the future by choosing to trust in God’s acts of justice, judgment, and ultimate victory.
Ice Breaker: When have you watched something slowly unravel because of poor choices (a system, team, or situation)? What happened, and how did it affect you?
The Sermon Setup: Revelation 6-9, 15-16 The Judgement
Why would it have mattered for the original seven churches to understand tribulation as something they were already living in, as opposed to something coming in the future?
The message talked about how the various judgments of the seals, bowls, and trumpets show God “handing humanity over” to its choice to join with team dragon (Romans 1). How is this different from imagining God as actively inflicting random punishment?
- Why is it significant that earthly empires ultimately “eat themselves alive”?
- What does it mean that the church is both spiritually protected and physically suffering during these judgments?
Going Deeper
The martyrs cry out, “How long?” Why is this an honest and good prayer?
What have you learned so far from Revelation that can help you stand firm instead of becoming fearful or discouraged?
How does knowing the ending (God wiping every tear) change how we endure present suffering?
