Announcement: It is that time of year to review the Grow Group Commitment
Icebreaker: If your prayer life were represented by a mode of communication (texting, a phone call, a voicemail, a group chat, or a deep face-to-face conversation), which one would it be and why?
Sermon Discussion:
- How would your closest relationships suffer if all most of your communication was done while multitasking, fitting them in to the other things you are doing? How does this relate to our relationship with God?
- Prayer was defined as "talking with God" (A conversation) instead of "talking to God." What is the difference, and why does it matter?
- How does viewing prayer as a conversation with God change the way we approach it?
- Have you ever experienced prayer as a two-way conversation? What did that look like?
- What role should silence play in your prayer life? How can we make space to listen to God in prayer?
Going Deeper
- Read Matthew 14:22-23, Luke 5:16, Luke 6:12, and Mark 1:35. How do these passages show Jesus prioritizing prayer?
- Hurry and busyness are the greatest enemies of prayer. What practical steps can we take to slow down and focus on God in prayer?
- God has already started the conversation through His Word. How does this change the way we approach prayer? Any good examples?
- How can praying Scripture help align our prayers with God’s will?
Next Steps:
- How can we incorporate prayer into our daily rhythms without reducing it to a background activity?
