Grow Group Questions - September 7, 2025

Announcement: Please review the Grow Group Commitment document with your group in September to set the stage for your group this fall.

Ice Breaker: How has studying the failures of Israel’s kings and the hope of the promised King shaped your understanding of God’s faithfulness?

Opening Questions:

Why do you think it’s harder for modern people (especially Americans) to relate to the idea of living under a king?
  • How might that hurt our understanding of Jesus as King?
Read 1 Samuel 8:7 together. Why do you think Israel rejected God as their king?
  • In what ways do you see echoes of Israel’s desire for “a king like the nations” in our own culture—or even in your own heart?
Read Luke 1:30–33. How does Gabriel describe the kind of king Jesus would be? How do you think that might be different from what Israel expected?
Going Deeper:
The sermon pointed out that we often like Jesus as Savior but resist him as King.
  • Where in your life do you find it easier to embrace Jesus as Savior?
  • Where is it more difficult to submit to him as King?
What are some areas of life where it’s hardest for you to say, “Yes, King Jesus, I’ll obey whatever you ask”?
How might trusting Jesus as king actually lead to deeper joy and freedom, rather than loss?
How does recognizing Jesus as both Savior and King bring you hope today?
What is one area of life you sense God inviting you to surrender more fully to his kingship?
Closing/ Prayer Prompts:
Praise Jesus for being the King who died for us.
Confess ways you have tried to shape Jesus into your own image.
Ask God to help you trust his rule in areas where doubt or fear still lingers.
Yield to Jesus’ kingship: invite him to lead your decisions, desires, and direction this week.
