Prayer Guide sample using “PRAY”:
Pray: Praise God for who He is.
Confess: Humbly bring any places where you’ve lost your “saltiness.”
Ask: Invite Him to show you and your group how to shine light this week.
Yield: Submit your plans and trust that God will use you to bring Him glory.
Ice Breaker: Who is someone in your life that seemed “ordinary” but made a lasting impact on you? What made their influence so strong?
Opening Questions:
Read Aloud Matthew 5:12-16
- When have you seen God’s people make a real difference by being different from the culture?
- What are some ways Christians can lose their “saltiness” in today’s world?
- What are some common reasons people might hide their faith, and how can we overcome them?
Going Deeper:
- Verse 16 says our light should shine so people “see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” What’s the difference between good works that point to us and good works that point to God?
- What kinds of “good works” do you think speak the loudest to people who do not believe in Christ?
- What does it look like when a Christ follower is “oversalting” his or her interactions with the world and how can we avoid it in our own lives?
- In what practical ways can Christ’s followers prevent moral and spiritual decay in the world?
Application:
- Where in your life do you feel God calling you to be “salt” (preserving, bringing out flavor, slowing decay) this week?
- Where do you have the opportunity to be “light” (guiding, revealing truth, pushing back darkness) in your family, workplace, or community?
