Icebreaker: Have you ever believed something for years—only to find out later it wasn’t true? What was it, and how did you find out?

Sermon Discussion:  Read Jude 3-10

Jude originally wanted to write about salvation, but felt compelled instead to warn against false teaching. What does that shift in tone tell us about the urgency of contending for truth?

  • Summarize the lesson that the scarf illustrates about false teaching

Why is it important that our beliefs and behaviors align with the teaching “once for all delivered to the saints?”

  • What are some ways we can distinguish between healthy cultural engagement and theological compromise?

  • How can the church both guard against false teaching and remain a place of grace and welcome for people struggling with sin?

    Going Deeper:

Jude claims that the false teachers appealed to dreams or inner revelation. How can we responsibly balance spiritual experiences with biblical truth?

Summarize how accepting Christ as Savior and as Lord differ and why the distinction is important.

    • How does understanding grace wrongly—“since sin is forgiven, we can do what we want”—damage our relationship with God and others?

Are there teachings, influencers, or Christian voices you’ve followed that now seem questionable or off course?

    • How do you evaluate spiritual teaching in your life today?

    Next Steps:

Think about the “thought experiment” from the sermon: Have you ever been tempted to reinterpret Scripture to justify something in your life or avoid a hard conversation?

    • What helped (or could help) you re-center on truth?

Jude calls us to contend for the faith. Are there areas in your life where you've avoided contending—perhaps to keep the peace or avoid confrontation?
    • What might faithful, loving contention look like in that situation?
