Opening Prayer Prompts For Group:

P-Praise God for the promise of what we will experience with Him for eternity.

R- Repent and confess where your heart longs for God’s future blessings more than his presence.

A-Ask God to deepen your longing for his presence now and strengthen you to live faithfully.

Y-Yield by asking God to help you live as a spiritual conqueror who follows the Lamb.

Ice Breaker: When you imagine heaven, what is the first thing that usually comes to mind?

The Sermon Setup: Revelation 21:1-8

  • Which promise about the new creation (no death, grief, crying, or pain) stands out most to you right now, and why? What does this reveal about God’s heart for His people?
  • Revelation 21:1-8 gives both hope and warning in the same passage. Why do you think that is?  Where do you find hope in this passage?  Where do you feel God warning you?
  • The message stated that our greatest reward is not heaven itself but dwelling with God. How is that different from how we often think about heaven?

Going Deeper

  • What is the difference between longing for heaven itself and longing for God in heaven? Why does that matter?
  • If our greatest joy in eternity will be dwelling with God, what can we do now to grow in our desire for God Himself?
  • How can remembering the future promise of dwelling with God help us endure hardship or resist compromise today?
  • What is one practical step you could take this week to pursue closeness with God (prayer, Scripture, worship, repentance, etc.)
