Opening Prayer Prompts For Group:

P-Praise God for being the One who restores what sin destroyed. Praise Him for His promise to make all things new.

R- Repent by confessing ways you cling too tightly to this world instead of living with eternity in mind.

A-Ask God to help you live faithfully in this world while keeping your heart set on the world to come.

Y-Yield by surrendering your life to God’s greater story.

Ice Breaker: What kinds of moments in your life produce the emotion in you, “This feels like heaven on earth”?

The Sermon Setup: Read Revelation 21:1-4 and 21:9-14

  • Think about the description of the New Jerusalem:

    • Why is it significant that God is not going to destroy the city, but he is going to renew it?

    • What are some aspects of the New Heaven and New Earth that connect back to the Garden of Eden in Genesis?

    • How would these verses have encouraged the original audience during a time of intense persecution?

Going Deeper - Read Revelation 22:1-5

  • What will the people of God be doing in Heaven?
        • How is this different from how it’s depicted in our world? Does that difference surprise you, or not? Why?
  • Why do you think people often struggle to look forward to eternity?
  • What’s one area of your life that would need to change if you were living more for eternity than for today?
  • John hears that he will see the Bride, but instead he sees a city.
  • What does this reveal about God’s people?

  • What are some specific ways that understanding ourselves as the “Bride” might shape the way we live now?

  • The description of the city mirrors that of the temple in the Old Testament.

        • Why is it significant that there is no temple in the city?
