Grow Group Questions - October 20, 2024

Announcement:

Have you considered leading or going on a hurricane relief trip? This is an incredible time to help meet the needs of those suffering the effects of these storms

Icebreaker:
Have you ever followed a rule or guideline that seemed restrictive at first but later made sense? How did it change your perspective

Sermon Discussion -  Read Romans 7:1-13 (CSB)

Romans 7:7 says, "I would not have known sin if it were not for the law.

  •  In your own words, how does the law function like a light to reveal sin
  •  In verse 12, Paul declares, “The law is holy, and the commandment is holy and just and good.”

  • How can we see God's character through His law?
  • Why can we say that the law is good, weak, and unified?
    • What does Jesus mean in Matthew 5:17-18 when he says that he came to fulfill the law, not replace it?

    Going Deeper:

  • Why do you think people often see the law as restrictive or unnecessary for New Testament believers?
  •  How would you respond to someone who believes that
  •  How do the misconceptions about the law (seeing it as neutral or irrelevant) affect the way believers live out their faith today?
  •  How can we approach the Old Testament law with a mindset that seeks to understand God’s ongoing desire and character for His people

  • Next Steps:

Think of one specific law or commandment that has felt irrelevant or challenging.

    • How might re-examining it in the light of God’s goodness and Christ's fulfillment change your view
