The Bethany Water Ski Team is for students that have completed 7th through 12th grade (or are 13 by June 1) and meets at Airport Beach every Wednesday, June through July, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. At 11:00 a.m., the boats go quiet as the students break for lunch and spend time in their small groups. During small group time the student minister pastor, Billy Hestand, teaches a Bible Study and student leaders spend time leading a discussion on how to apply scripture to their daily life. Each student that participates is encouraged to establish goals and work hard to master their skills.
Students are also invited and strongly encouraged to attend Ski Camp in July. Camp is held at Arrowhead Bible Camp in New Auburn, WI. Students enjoy a week of skiing, wake boarding, Bible study and getting to know each other and the Lord better. This week is where we see the most growth in skiing ability and in our relationships with Christ. Other activities included are bonfires, music, games, challenging speakers and much more. This is the camp not to be missed!
Students range in abilities from beginner to intermediate and interests including skiing, barefooting, and wake boarding. Not all of the students are regular Bethany attenders. We have skiers from several churches, as well as some who do not attend church at all. The ministry is geared to reach out to teens at all levels of faith.
The Water Ski Team exists to provide students an opportunity not only to participate in water sports but to enjoy and build upon the gifts and talents God has given them. This Ministry began with a couple of parents getting involved and investing time, money, and talent into the lives of their own kids and their friends. What began as a few students learning to ski has grown into over 100 students, around 30 adults, and 7 or 8 boats that hit the river each summer for a great season of skiing!
